Game 2: Sneeze
Chronicles of the 118th World Series: Even without looking down the field, you might take for granted what happens when Cuban slugger Yordan Álvarez hits the ball.
This morning, while we were having a cup of coffee, my wife Ruth suggested a really inspiring idea to me: "Honey, why don't you write some short stories about the emotions we are experiencing with the presence of Cuban and Latino players in this World Series?".
I don't know what you think, but hey, I thought she was great! So, since we're in the 118th edition of the Fall Classic, I thought I'd write a 118-word chronicle on each of the upcoming games. We don't know how many there will be, but I think bringing a capture of our emotions here could be fun. I hope you enjoy them!
Okay, you're probably not going to believe it, but it happened in Game 2 of the Astros-Phillies World Series: When Yordan Alvarez hit Zack Wheeler's 92.9 mph slider, he snapped a string of nine games and 30 at-bats without driving in runs in Fall Classics.
It sounded really weird, right?
Instantly, ESPN's broadcast caught two legendary Astros superstars, Jeff Bagwell and Craig Biggio, commenting excitedly as Yordan Alvarez detonated the 97.5 mph missile to left fielder at Minute Maid Park.
Obviously, under the impressive ovation of the Astros fans, even those around Bagwell and Biggio couldn't hear their conversation. But hey: When Yordan hit Zack Wheeler's pitch, he felt the ball sneeze.
Well, it was Yordan Álvarez's swing.
