Houston Astros first baseman José Abreu entered Globe Life Field last Monday experiencing another slight offensive awakening days after returning from the disabled list.
However, with a little less than a month left in the regular season, the consistency that the Houston Astros expected from Abreu has yet to be felt. The good news is that the sweep at Texas clinched the team in first place in the AL West, which bodes well for the postseason.
So Abreu still seems to have time to adjust in the batter's box. His OPS rose from .636 (among the worst-rated hitters this year) to .697 during his last 43 plate appearances where he hit a double, two home runs, and drove in 11 runs in a 10-game span. Almost a couple of weeks before presenting inflammation of the lower back, Abreu hit 3-for-35 in nine games, without extra bases, while seeing his record of strikeouts (11) triple compared to hits.
