What an excellent piece. As I told you before, Mr. Yirsandy, I love your style! I'm really happy to know that the work of a talented writer like you can be spread through Substack. I wish you more success.

PS: I already subscribed! It is a shame that he has not been able to arrive since Opening Day, but I offer him my support and I enjoy his inexhaustible work. Appreciating your time.

By the way, I don't know if I told you before that the only time I saw José Fernández pitch live was at Marlins Park, during the summer of 2016. It was on a Friday, with my mother, who is Cuban. Her birthday was on Sunday, and for that reason we preferred to go to the baseball park on Friday -- really, I can't tell you that we knew José Fernández would pitch. It was probably a few starts before his terrible boating accident. What I do remember is that he gave the Dodgers 14 strikeouts! I think he pitched about six innings. And what I am sure of is that the last out was when he struck out another Cuban, Yasiel Puig. And, listen to me, as I read in your chronicle, Fernández really was absolutely incredible. What pitcher! Wow.

Thank you, dear Bill, for the subscription and your words, which really drive my work. The story he tells me would have been unforgettable for any fan of José Fernández. I remember that game, because I saw a summary that same night. By the way, Puig and José were great friends. And I won't forget that punch. Thank you for sharing his memories as a fan, in such a special moment with his mother. I hope you continue to enjoy our coverage. A big hug from a distance.

Wow! Yirsandy, this story on José Delfín Fernández is surely one of the best you have written. Oh, the pain of losing someone of such promise before he even reached what probably would have been the prime of his career! You've captured the sadness and frustration that must still be very real to many baseball fans, especially all of you in Cuba. So, who is the next José Delfín Fernández coming up in the Rainbow Nation?

Good to read you, my dear Chuck! Thank you for Yes, it has truly been a devastating loss of José Fernández, our Cuban star who will always shine in our hearts. I still remember that I saw José play in Cuba, when he was part of the Villa Clara team in the U-15 category, when they played against the Havana City team. But, certainly, in those years he did not seem to be what he later managed to be: a superstar. So the story of his improvement goes back many years. Now, I certainly can't tell you who could take his place. I hope there is someone who achieves his brilliance among the emerging Cuban talent. But, to be honest, I still think it seems pretty difficult: Fernández was unique.

I had the pleasure of seeing him pitch when he started in the second division. A great pitcher. Excellent tribute to his memory.

He was undoubtedly an emerging star, who reached the pinnacle of baseball in a short time and projected a great career. I appreciate his words, Jeff.
